Already did, but everything's still as it should be--
I'm not sure if this will work, but try copying all the Lunar Shadow files into a fresh copy of Cave Story and see what happens.

Game just closes when you're at any point in control.

Load a game? Closes.
Start a new game? Closes after the cutscene(s).
Check the script for the opening cutscenes to see if there's anything wrong with it.

So old thread is old but is more than just a memory. So I decided to take the various maps I had put onto the Lunar Shadow Wiki and put them together:
As you can guess, it's unfinished and I'm still not sure if I've connected the maps correctly. Also the long section left of the Entrance represents the bad ending you can get at the start of the game.

Then I went back to this thread, made use of the colour coded maps Cibryll (aka Ariana/Yui Seymour) created for this thread and updated the map.

No such map :P

There is, however, no name for her within Reservoir TR.

I have begun work on the sprites of two sisters. They are blonde. They have a Thunder affinity. The one is half-asleep and the other is awake. One speaks like a Valley Girl (trope), the other uses archaic terms like "thou" and "thee" and "thy" and "thine" and "hast" and "hath".
Thanks.

I uses archaic terms; I'll need help with that.
N uses valley girl speak (like, totally whatever); that, I'll probably have to try and figure out for myself.

Right. Could someone with Cave Editor or Booster's Lab please check Reservoir RR to see if I haven't named the mermaid yet?

(Her name will become Aziza, but if people like her current name enough... plan B! Whatever that is.)

Yes. Enough to (currently) survive one death trap.

I found issues with the password thing in Servant Quarters RR (beta testers know what I mean).
I've had to change those entirely. (Konami code is okay, but the other two… aren't. :-/ )

EDIT:
There might be a miscalculation somewhere, though; I ended up with 195 max Acidic Bubble mana instead of 200.

O_O
Title: Re: Progress and Future Versions (spoilers)
Post by: RKS on 28 December 2015, 16:45:39
Double-posting because those bugs are losing. :P

Anyway, in version 4a, you'll be able to get a maximum of 150 HP (unless I slipped up), 200 mana for the Acidic Bubble spell (unless I made a mess of things), and 50 ammo for Arcadia (if I didn't ruin it) OR, under a very specific condition, infinite ammo.

All the outfits can be obtained, a spoilery NPC has been added to several cutscenes (they prefer to be silent though), a mermaid is finally important-ish (I kept forgetting about her until recently), a bad ending has been added (ha ha ha ha ha), and the Confusion Zone is confirmed to be in version 5.

Also several bugs have been fixed unless I failed at that. :))

(My cheerfulness is a façade by the way. I worry a lot about Lily and others.)

Kim, can I make a boss rush version after this mod is completely finished?

(In other words, beat the bosses as quickly as you can. Speedrun.)

Should probably be okay for a first mod attempt, right?
If you want to.

Though, I didn't expect that question from you. :o
Right! 105 bugs (probably less) to fix.
This should be fun.

FITE ME BUGS
I'M NOT SCARED OF YA

* mass fite-ing ensues *

I'll start off with the easy-to-fix bugs, of course. Azehr is going to be the most difficult one, given that he's linked to at least ten bugs. (If not more.)

The next release should be a public one, version 4a. Hopefully I can finish it before 16 January (Lunar Shadow's first birthday), but who knows.

EDIT (27/12/2015 22:18)
I've fixed a few bugs now, including Life Capsule bugs in 3-HP mode and some cutscene-related issues.
Right now, I'm working on the final map's cutscene, but for that, a spoilery character will need facepics which I'm working on.

Who is that character? That mysterious character who is a spoilery one?

I want you guys to guess.
Beta Testers aren't permitted to guess, since they already know :P
(Assuming, of course, they beat the Myst Zone in the most recent Beta and met the character.)

From what I can tell, it seems to be so with the first DS game in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise (I had almost all the characters alive, but then I had to forget about one of them and he died). Not sure with the second DS game (though I haven't finished it yet). Or Strange Journey, for that matter (I swear, staying Neutral is harder than I thought).

New things to look forward to:
- more enemies that appear when some bosses are beaten
- a new music room (in the Entrance)
- you can save an important female NPC (no, not Valkyrie, at the moment; that's in the Confusion Zone that has yet to be finished)
- some more info on Azehr (not much)
- a new puzzle at the Top Floor (near the final bosses; it's just like the one in the Central Tower area where you read stuff to open the way)
- no Missile Launcher obtaining bugs (so you can't exploit a bug to obtain the Missile Launcher now :P )
1. why ;-;

EDIT 2:
The final end cutscene (after you leave the castle) can be accessed now, though I'm still working on it.
So far, three variations of that cutscene exists.
* hype train comes along and catches fire due to mass hype hysteria *

Still a few more to fix, but the Myst Zone now has bosses. There's also the Nikumaru Counter.
What does the Nikumaru Counter do in Lunar Shadow?

Also, there's a new ally in the mod, one who is saved in the Myst Zone. Their sprites have yet to be done, but it should be easy. ;)

In addition, I'm considering having 3-HP mode having a special treasure: Arcanum Infinity. (It's just like the name says.)
Though, it would be even MORE overpowered at level 3 (seriously infinite ammo and level 3 Arcanum).
Ilina, isn't it?

Arcanum has additional ammo that can be obtained, but it has limits.
Arcanum starts at 30 ammo, which is justified due to how overpowered it can be at level 3.
The maximum ammo available is going to be 50, and will be obtainable in the treasury in the Entrance area.

Well, that splendid.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The Acidic Bubble also has additional mana that can be obtained.
It starts at 20 (if you get it from Reservoir B) or 15 (if you get it from Reservoir Y) mana.
Other chests that increase maximum mana for it are locked if you don't have the spell yet.
There's a +30 increase in the Entrance treasury, and a +15 increase in the East Tower area.
Thus, it currently has the maximum mana total of 80.

♪ I wish I could be, as cool as you.

Also, there's a new ally in the mod, one who is saved in the Myst Zone. Their sprites have yet to be done, but it should be easy. ;)

I wonder who will it be.

So, I figured, may as well add even more info to the castle's past and whatnot.
Some of this info can only be uncovered if a certain person is saved from demise.

I'm still adding the Warp Doors and making them work, of course.
This should be easy enough to do. :)

There's also a few more Life Capsules added: two in the East Tower, one in the Confusion Zone, and currently, that's it. I have yet to add more.
A total of +15 max HP has been added, so currently the maximum HP is around 75 (I want to make it at least 100, to be honest).
When I'm done with that, I'll make sure that 3-HP mode does not have the Life Capsules appear.

Arcanum has additional ammo that can be obtained, but it has limits.

After I fix the last remaining bugs of the current version, there might be a beta release for those who are Beta Testers.
At this point, it's a 50% chance.

EDIT:
Currently, work is going okay~
So after the final boss is beaten, the entire castle starts to fall apart, right?
I'm making sure that all the maps, including those you can't access without cheating (after beating the final boss) will have quakes.
(Progress on that: ~100%.)

Oh, and there's a new boss in Top Floor CZ. >:3

EDIT 2:
The final end cutscene (after you leave the castle) can be accessed now, though I'm still working on it.
So far, three variations of that cutscene exists.

Also, warp doors will be blocked off if the final boss is beaten. So no "2-minute speedruns", I guess.

EDIT 3:
Just a few more bugs to fix ;D
Then, I'll make a back-up of the mod and begin work on the Confusion Zone. (Oh, and the Myst Zone bosses. Almost forgot about them.)

EDIT 4:
Still a few more to fix, but the Myst Zone now has bosses. There's also the Nikumaru Counter.

So, current things to do:
- fix Warp Doors that don't work
- fix other bugs, when possible
- back-up mod after fixing as many bugs possible
- work on Confusion Zone

Right. With my computer working again, the very first thing I did was… re-enable the Mute menu. :P

6. So is Cheriza and Kyouki Ataerareta Niku one and the same, or…?
Yes.

I've an idea: speedrun times being changed.

After the castle master's been beaten, add a timer and have it count upwards; the fastest time change the title song.
That'd require ASM hacking, which I'm horrible at.
I'll ask around when the time comes, though.

ASM hacking will be required though since I doubt one can escape the castle in like six minutes and the songs to play might need to be different?
Exactly.

Also, the top five times get to choose the top five weapons for Lunar Shadow Zero (though video times only).

Perhaps make the Confusion Zone route the fastest one?
… not sure how I feel about that, but the Confusion Zone route will be canon.

The observant will have noticed that my signature has been updated to contain "Sea Zone". Some of you may be wondering, "why is there a Sea Zone in Kim's signature?". Others may be wondering something entirely different, like "when is Lunar Shadow version 4 going to be released?" or "what will be the next thing I do after I beat the final boss of this video game I've been playing recently?" or "what's the next dinner gonna be?". :P

Well, I can answer only about the Sea Zone.

It can be accessed by entering a password in Servant Quarters RR. Not the Konami Code or the Konami Code backwards. L R L L R L R R L R L L.
Charity, kindness, charity, charity, kindness, charity, kindness, kindness, charity, kindness. (And probably start thereafter.)
The left eye sees charity, the right eye sees kindness. Or something. Haven't decided yet what the hint will be or what the code will be. :(

As such, it's still inaccessible, so I moved the start point to there for the purpose of these screenshots! :D

(click to show/hide)
Yes, inventory items now have a description added to them at their names. Pressing Z on them will (usually) add another one, if the item doesn't do something. (So the Map System, the Save Disk, cakes, Life Pots, those have only one description.)
At this time, several items have "New description required" as a description, since their original descriptions (like that of the keys) were moved. (Also the Ocean Key has been renamed to the Bubble Key for consistency.)

(click to show/hide)
The Sea Zone map, as viewed from the Map System. Fake walls are there, too, but they're displayed solid (like in the Sand Zone of vanilla Cave Story).

(click to show/hide)
Aside from water, the Sea Zone also has spikes. And aside from spikes and water? Spikes in water.

(click to show/hide)
This girl… her name is Ignis. Her last name is du Blaze. You can first meet her in the Sea Zone, or in Tower RR (if you rematch Sycor); currently no additional dialogue regarding this exists.

(click to show/hide)
There are three switches. Activate them all, and you can reach the boss room!

(click to show/hide)
Not all is as it seems! Some of the blocks are breakable, so if you see a suspicious-looking wall, check the map or attack that wall. (Breakable blocks are a lighter shade of green in the map than solid blocks. Spikes appear on that map as solid blocks, by the way.)

(click to show/hide)
Moving blocks also appear in the Sea Zone. But what if they're the only way to reach certain areas? Oh no, there's no way across! D:

… oh, wait, the terminals nearby will make the moving blocks move as well, so that you can't get stuck. Genius, right? Of course, there's still the danger of getting crushed into dust by a block, so… it's still dangerous. More dangerous than the Myst Zone or the Confusion Zone areas (neither of which have moving blocks).

(click to show/hide)
Currently, the Sea Zone lacks monsters. I'm currently wondering what monsters could fit in this area. Aside from the boss, of course.

(click to show/hide)
That's the boss room. However… I haven't worked on the boss yet, but it will be done eventually. The boss's name? Cheriza or something like that. Who is Cheriza? The Sea Zone boss. That's who. :P

(click to show/hide)
The only house in the Sea Zone. Ignis lives here.

By the way, Ignis's face is never shown… kinda like Team Fortress 2's Pyro; their faces have never been shown so far I know.
However, I can outright confirm that Ignis is a girl (like Samus).
The Sea Zone is where one learns more about Ignis, sort of.

1st screen: I like thy Background. It has that 3D effect. Great work.
Technically, it's a recolor of a background from Cave Story Beta. Seen here (http://www.cavestory.org/game-info/beta-images.php?i=29).

2nd screen: 30 LIVES, HERE WE COME :3
* cue the Myst Zone >;3 *

3rd screen: Nice smiles. I would definetly give me nightmares :D (Kidding.) About the special thing, you used and inverted face for the exit, and just changed the bottom ties.
Yep~

4th and 5th screen: It looks nice. yes. Just a question: that was Confusion zone right (I don't quite remember how it looked like.)
Yeah, the first pic is the Myst Zone, and the second one is the Confusion Zone. :3

It's to answer the question of why 3-HP mode is canon, and appears in a book in Servant Quarters RR. :)

Implode: burst inward
Explode: burst outward, usually with noise

So why did the Castle Master do that, Kim? Why did he cast a spell to make Serenth implode on itself if a Karjamian appears? Why not explode instead?

It says nothing about Karjams of any kind. I'm not even going to mention them in the Lunar Shadow verse.

In fact, the Serenth galaxy will self-implode if a Karjamian were to be detected in it, due to a spell the Castle Master cast on the galaxy.

That looks Faaaaantastic. So Valerie is saved and all that Jazz. The building in front of the castle will be evacuated right. I don't want rainbow hair girl to die. :D
Valerie actually escapes as soon as the Castle Master is defeated. Once the castle starts falling apart, the surviving NPCs flee now that they can safely do so.

That includes the girl with the rainbow-colored hair, Selena Daria. (She gets mad if someone calls her "Selena" or "Daria". Not sure why, though.)

I just remembered about that Golden Life Capsule. What purpose will they serve?
And Kim. Why the dialoge box is angled on the left site and rounded on the right.
Possibly a red herring, at this moment? I forgot about that... ^^;
As for the dialogue box, it's as Daphne says - the Cave Story beta had such dialogue boxes.

First random thing that came to mind, actually...
How did I forget that ::)

Um. Did you perhaps have that event as the final one, and forgot an <END or something?
That might be the problem.
It was indeed. For someone who quit modding, you still know a lot about it. :o

If I had to guess, it will either increase maximum life by a large amount (like 15), or it will be a quest item for a reward.

Though this brings new questions to mind that I'll be asking in the Questions thread.
As you wish. I'll answer as soon as I can.

EDIT:
Oh hey, page 16. Yay.

For a 49th post, I guess it's okay. Lacks green, though. :P

But probably the former.

Alas, Yui is correct. Serenity's dad is definitely deceased; it was only by the power of "the one who opposes darkness" that he was permitted to speak to his daughter.

She wakes up outside the castle and becomes playable. (The epilogue is playable, sort-of.)

... or it could still be a twist. That area appears to have no exits, as far as we can see from the pic. Perhaps it's all just a dream from a tired Serenity who collapses in the end? I know I'd probably collapse with all that I'd be going through if I was in her shoes.

And @Kim, those corners in the background wall look a bit odd. Even more odd than an Oddish.

Would it be possible to have the Myst Zone bosses have various boss themes play based on the player's choices? Like, say, if they want Eyes of Flame to play in that boss fight, they just interact with a certain terminal, or something?
That could be arranged...

The Sycor rematch has seven possible songs at this time, thus uses seven flags (1360 to 1366).

Thus, for the other bosses, that would probably equal thirty-five extra flags to be used? I dunno.

I'll set up a poll for this.

EDIT: done~
Basically, if one option has five votes more than the other, that option wins.
Alternatively, if all members voted, the option with the most votes win.

The deadline? Whenever the last ORG requests I've made are finished. Nobody knows when that will be; thus, I didn't set an expiry date for the poll.

Indeed.

I thought Luna was going to be invulnerable? :o
Well, she is invulnerable in the first phase of their battle, technically. :P

There ought to be chocolate cake as well, I believe.

Any chances of that, cousin?
Well, as the previous cake isn't chocolate cake yet, I guess it could work.

Is there going to be a boss in the upper part of Tower RR?

If you go all the way to the right past the spikes, which can be done with the Arcanum, there's an Undead Core arena thingy there.
Yeah, after you beat Sycor in the Laboratory, you can reach Tower RR and battle Sycor again, but it's even harder due to the deathtraps there. You'll have to go on the mini-cores and avoid getting killed by transformed Shinica and transformed... someone.

The second Sycor match is optional, to the point of being able to pick one of several songs to play during the boss fight. After defeating them, you can obtain a Cake.

Wait

There's an alpha release?
Well, if there are beta releases then there are probably alpha releases too, right? :P

@Shane:
Probably.
And you really need to do something about that internet. :-/

@alfasketer:
55555 (http://lunarshadowcs.createaforum.com/lunar-shadow/progress-and-future-versions/msg861/#msg861).
(Okay, sadly not containing a 5 in its post ID {861} or reply number {188} but the answer's there. Black on white.)

So, since Shane can't access the LS Blog, I have little choice but to do this... LET LOOSE THE WALL OF TEXT!

Myst Zone: Blood Garden
- There are now enemies. They're just flying Critters, Power Critters, and giant beetles ("Basu"?) from the Egg Corridor? from vanilla Cave Story. Oh, and undead bats.
- Other NPCs will include robot NPCs that look just like Malco from vanilla Cave Story. One of them, X-100, guards the Myst Zone's door to the next area. The only hint is found in the Servant Quarters library after talking to it... or at this forum. ;)
- A new outfit is added, but is purely aesthetic. This outfit is the formal blue outfit.
- The air tank and Valkyrie Wings will cease to work in a certain area of the Blood Garden. Leave that area and they will work again, but... yeah. A robot suspects that it is a girl called Shiori Shauntal. Certain outfits (like the Aqua Armor) are supposed to prevent the player from drowning regardless of that, however, and there's a non-flight path.
- The Myst Zone is now part of the best ending plot. I didn't plan it and this is like a bolt from the gosh darn blue. You guys know how Lady Ilina from the Tirahnys Continent is missing, right? Well... the Castle Master is responsible for that. Yes. The Tirahnys Continent's once president was kidnapped and held prisoner. Or something.
- Shiori Shauntal, as mentioned above. Currently, she's only mentioned, having survived an incident that turned the Blood Garden into what it is now, two years ago. Little else is known about her. Is she going to be a key character? A boss? A zombie? Part of the final boss's evil plot to ruin Newerth?

Tower
- Azehr, the Central Tower boss, has been implemented, and works okay. He has a habit of shouting “NO WAY” rapidly, to the point of annoyance. However, say that it’s annoying, and he gets angry. There are five battles against him, and he prevents access to the Top Floor.
- The trope “The Dev Team Thinks of Everything” probably doesn’t apply to this, but after every form of Azehr is beaten, the floor and ceiling of the maps will be destroyed, which lets the next form commence. The floor and ceiling will stay destroyed for the rest of the mod. (Okay, it technically doesn’t since I’ve reached the limit of maps and have to resort to using TSC for that, but still.)
- Tower SP. This map is another map where Serenity can change her outfits, and also a map where Warp Doors can be found. Currently, they do nothing. I have yet to work on those. Sorry… :(
- A part of the Tower area has flying Bute archers attack. Yes. They’re in the mod, outside of the final boss.
- The entry puzzle is just reading three stone tablets. That’s it. Where are these stone tablets? Find that out for yourself. ;)

Top Floor
- The area is full of servants of the castle master, with machine guns. They’re basically like the maids in the Servant Quarters. 50 HP, occasionally shoots through walls (no idea why that happens since the bullets sometimes ignores things that would normally block NPCs). Yes, the Servant Quarters maids can shoot through walls and I can't fix it. Crazy right?
- There’s access to Tower TF, which is above the map where Azehr is first battled. The sister of the castle master is to the right of that, and she has to be beaten in order to be able to battle the castle master.

Other things
- There are going to be a few outfits that have special effects. So far, the only outfits with effects will just give the wearer immunity to drowning (in other words, they can breathe underwater). That’s it. Lame, considering the existence of the Air-Tank.
- This has yet to be implemented, but there’s going to be more item descriptions than before. Along with the item name, there’s gonna be a description for that item, in addition to the one that appears when trying to check an item in the inventory. I probably forgot about this and remembered about it and forgot and remembered it a lot of times though. :o

So, yeah. That about sums it up for the new things that weren't posted yet, but that are posted on the LS Blog.

FINALLY the forum's back :D

I'm lazy and in a hurry and whatnot so blog post (https://cslunarshadow.wordpress.com/2015/06/07/mysterious-issues-and-progress/).

There's old information and new information at the same time. Also, my status update (http://www.cavestory.org/forums/index.php?/statuses/user/7141-kim-tyranto/?status_id=41912) at the Cave Story Tribute Site Forums is related. Since Shane can't access the Cave Story forums (so far I know), I will just quote myself.

55555 is the answer.

What kind of evil castle master guy would have that as a password, in the first place? It's even worse than 12345.

Ugh, scripting that entire puzzle was a MAJOR pain. But I've managed to get it working okay, so huzzah.

Also I still wonder what was up with the downtime. :o

Don't worry; I don't know what Game of Thrones or a Song of Fire and Ice are, either. (Though I bet that Fire/Ice-type fan Pokémon of yours might.)
Both are basically the same. Ice and Fire is the name of the book series and Game of thrones is the name of the TV series and the first book.

And why so much puzzles Kim ;_; :D
She's a fan of La-Mulana, I believe, which may or may not be the reason for the puzzles.
La-Mulana had evil puzzles. Like, really evil.

Wow, I guess rarely watching TV these days or rarely reading books is to blame for that... D:

Azehr is fully added! :D
Next, enemies for the Myst Zone, before an alpha release will be available. (I hope.)

Can we get a boss items like keys that we can use with terminals. Just because people might not understand that.
Sorry, no.
There is, however, a major hint in Tower D that outright points out the map locations, and I was about to add another major hint regarding the two empty treasure chests that have to be opened to be able to get the Lunar Key.

Also a little question: Can we get a rival series to the Ginny Anderson series. Something like LotR ot GoT (or SoIaF)
LotR is Lord of the Rings, right? (No idea about the others though; never heard of those.)

Anyway... a rival series could work, though I have no idea what. And even then, it might be that the castle inhabitants hate the rival series or something. :o

Even more updates - I've decided that lame force fields will bar the way to the witches. For each important boss defeated, a force field vanishes. Something like that.
The Top Floor is also finally added, and has various enemies. Like Bute. Yes, them. Those boring guys. But also robot maids. You know, they have 50 HP and shoot at you? Them.
Top Floor O has loads of 'em.

Azehr is important to be able to battle both the witches and Alexis, too - at the moment, I'm working on the Azehr bosses (five maps, thus five forms).

Also, the fictive Ginny Anderson book series now totals 55555 pages. They just keep on becoming larger and larger, huh? D:

You know how you can access the Eastern Tower after beating Micren? If you go up to Tower RR, then to the right is a room with terminals (and a shutter with a treasure chest). After Sycor is beaten in the Labyrinth, the terminals are accessible.
(The only way to get to the Reservoir is by beating Sycor, but if you cheat to get around that... Sycor can't be rematched, either. :P )
Those terminals will be usable, and each terminal sets a flag and unsets several of those. Then, after the cutscene, the song selected is chosen.
After beating Sycor again, the shutter is removed and the treasure can safely be obtained - what is it? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a cake! ;D

As for the puzzles... well, if you can just waltz in it'd be pretty dull, in my opinion :P
(But relax, it's easy.)

Sycor2: fully functional, so far - you can also pick one of six songs (or silence) to play in the battle.
And you can, sort-of, access Central Tower - you can't go down yet, though, and to go up, you need to solve a puzzle. >:3

Not Sue and Misery, but sort-of like them.

If you get the chance, in the current version, go to the Eastern Tower (the Map System calls it "Tower RR"), and look around. That's where you'll battle Sycor again, as a bonus boss, alongside the transformed Shinica and the transformed unnamed minion of the final boss (whose name is unknown though she acts like Transformed Sue does). Use Lv3 Arcanum if you have to, in order to see the room entirely.

How difficult is that? Well... I sequence-broke while testing, and went from Myst, to the Reservoir, beat Micren, and went to Tower RR (80 max HP, level 2 Misery's End, level 3 Acidic Bubble, level 3 Arcanum). I got killed by the boss and its minions. In other words, Sycor2 is difficult as who-knows-what.

Sycor's minions. I guess you mean Sue and Misery. I hope at least at the end of the game to be a little buffed so they can stand a challenge.
And Myst sound interesting. I hope I will not get lost. :D
-=Damn it, it's hard to say something good without reusing -_-. Oh, well=-

Can finally access these fora ;D

So, yeah. The Myst Door Labyrinth.
There are hints in the first Myst Zone area. :)

The other Myst Zone areas are updated a bit as well; there are loads of spikes and magma in the fourth area, hidden walls in the third, and... well, you know how Entrance I had nothing, previously? Well, most of it is now with force-fields. Why? It leads to the fifth Myst Zone area (and vice versa). And you need the Valkyrie Wings to be able to travel most of the Myst Zone anyway...

Right now, I'm busy with Sycor's 2nd battle - it has minions, though, and if you sequence break somehow, you can only reach Sycor 2 if you beat Sycor in the Laboratory. ;)
Now... how will Sycor with minions be like? Tough, I suppose.

There is progress on Kim's end; I am posting this information for her. (She is having issues with accessing the forums, at the moment.)

Quote from: Kim
Regarding the Myst Zone:
  • The maps are now connected. I repeat, the maps are now connected. At the moment it's possible to travel between them. The next Alpha release will likely be Myst Zone-related.
  • I renamed the area to "Myst Zone" - I've played Sonic the Hedgehog for too long. However, the map names are unchanged.
  • "Myst - Blood Garden" now had a dressing room as well. So you can change your outfits in the Myst Zone too. I may regret that, though; if I update with a new outfit (whatever outfit it may be since there's still one unused "slot") I'll have to update the other two maps as well. Not to mention the "errors" I get on saving those maps' scripts.
  • "Myst - Entry to Demise" now has doors. And NPCs. And a boss. But you can't fight it without saving in that area and reloading immediately. The NPCs walk around - this is intentional. They don't care about Serenity being there, they're just rude. Three of those NPCs work for the Castle Master, against their will. And hate their uniforms, probably. Now, the doors... the puzzle answer is visible from the signposts. Just need to figure it out, but when the Alpha Release comes, I might decide to tell you guys. Or decide that you guys ought to figure it out yourselves. The Greek Letter "Mu" is a shortcut, but only if you've already passed that area through the Omega Door.
  • "Myst - Demise of the Maiden" will have a tileset change; I hear Dia's working on a tileset and I believe it might work for that area. The boss there still can be killed without a boss fight, but there's a literally inescapable pit at the moment. To fix. Yes.
  • "Myst - Desire of Demise" is finished, tile-wise.
Regarding the rest of the Lunar Soul Castle:
  • Minor updates here and there. Also removed Igor. Rest in peace, Igor, you've earned your rest. I cry silently...
  • Two songs have been added, one of which will be used in the Myst Zone as the area theme (thus far). Gilgamesh's battle theme in Final Fantasy 5? Listen to it. Then, tell me your thoughts on whether or not you'd listen to it endlessly.

The Greek Letter Mu would be μ ... so Ω and μ are both exit doors?

Kim, please add screenshots when you can ;-;

Progress report: none on Kim's end yet, she's still wondering about where the "defeated boss check" thing would be.
That, or waiting for something else. Has she more ORG requests we are unaware of? :o

On my end... I am busy with a tileset; maybe Kim might use it for a Myst area? Such a thing would be awesome.
If not, it could always be used in a future mod of hers.

It is a tileset similar to those of the Entrance and Top Floor areas. It is mostly recolored to red and black. Progress is not finished; when it is, I shall post it as soon as I can.

Too... boring, I'd say. Would lose points on the rating, probably. What rating, who knows?

Anyway, not much progress, but the Top Floor (post-final boss) has been expanded greatly (and by that, I mean the music room is now larger and a veritable room of oddness and there's one new room as well), so it's no longer just a music room.

There'll probably be items there, dunno what just yet though. I suppose having items appear based on what you obtained would work? (So, like if you skipped Misery's End it teleports to Top Floor MR or something.)

Or perhaps a new weapon. Not sure what just yet, but why would a new weapon be obtainable in the very last portion of the mod? Sounds fishy to me, but then again, Shane's a Pisces.
Um. I still don't eat fish.

Well that's good to hear. Music room will be finally something more than a lamer version of ORG view. With items non-the-less (I'm expecting cake)
By new weapon I guess You're talking about modified Spur and if Nemesis will be Heavy Press, then the only thing needed is a sword. (Thinking about i just remembered that you won't have Nemesis Curly with you.)
Yeah, Cave Story music tends to not play while Cave Story itself is open and the inactive window.
I tend to listen to music with either an ORG View program or OrgMaker when I browse the Internet.
(If I'm not listening to other file types like ".mp3" or ".ogg" files.)

Kim, what about the weapons Dia thought up? (One of those 45 she posted at the Vresun fora.)
Title: Re: Progress and Future Versions (spoilers)

More ammo will be definetly good for both weapons.
Title: Re: Progress and Future Versions (spoilers)
Post by: RKS on 03 May 2015, 21:47:37
The cake will be a lie regarding being found in the music room; I intend on having it in the Top Floor though (maybe where Valerie is).

Moonblast (I think that's the new Spur) will also be obtained before then, going by my notes.

So... who knows? Maybe it'll be a treasure trove of silly magical items like a Whimsical Star or several Life Capsules or items that increase max mana for Acidic Bubble or max ammo for Arcanum.

I had a lot of trouble with the Sacred Grounds as well, since 2008. It took me about three years to finally reach Ballos...

That said, the Confusion Zone was, apparently, meant to have three floors exactly like the Sacred Grounds, though Kim scrapped that. (Not sure why.)

Original Cave Story has 55 max HP. Currently, Lunar Shadow has at least 60 max HP (and possibly still counting; maybe it will end up at 80 max HP). The final boss uses Ballos' AI (with the Doctor's first form AI).

Shinica and Luna are indeed a dual boss. Luna uses Igor's AIs while Shinica uses Misery's AI.

Invidia will, at the moment, use Heavy Press's AI.

Luna's first form will have unreasonably high HP (at least 19200 or higher, depending on whether or not Cave Story crashes if it's higher than that), so that most players would focus on beating Shinica instead. Luna's next form will instead have far less HP (less than 700) because that's more fair.

That's my thoughts, at least.

That song sounds awesome :o

Well, we have a clear choice now.
I wanted to ask: if Invidia is going to be a boss, are you planning for a whole new boss, or a normal CS boss (first coming to ming is Misery)

Fake walls, huh. Wich type tho? The one you can walk through or the breakable one.
Both. The Confusion Zone is just full of 'em. To, well, confuse people.

Tower look even more sci-fi-ish. YAY :D
Thanks :)

I wonder why are there many doors in Myst.
To confuse people. (Seriously, that'd be expected in the Confusion Zone of all places.)

Bloody garden is bloody creapy.
Thank goodness. (The lack of enemies... even creepier, though also boring...)

The Last Cave type area looks awesome. I have never seen that much of an airborn plarforming with botomless pits. I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks. :)
(Currently, that's as far as possibly accessible. I have yet to add more of that area.)

EDIT:
Okay, I've decided that the Myst area will have a boss rush of ~five bosses.

The first boss will be similar to Micren (and Ironhead from vanilla CS), though you just stand around dodging fish and boss. ;)

The second one? Unknown.
The third one? Unknown.
The fourth one? Unknown.
The fifth one? Toroko+ AI.

(click to show/hide)
So what we have here is a failure to communicate, mate a Sand Zone-like area (fake walls), a Last Cave-like area (magma) and an area that looks like the Entrance and has a creepy person waiting to get annihilated.

I haven't really connected the areas just yet; I've been too busy getting sidetracked by golden flying saucers other video games and working on some ORGs my ex-boyfriend had made in 2012. (I posted those at the Cave Story Tribute Site Forums (http://www.cavestory.org/forums/index.php?/topic/825-show-off-your-org-music/?p=201458).)

Okay, that's as best as I can type "okay" while having my eyes closed. :o
At least that's still a word, though. :P

Anyway, the progress is slow, as usual. :P

Not to mention, the Myst area needs a boss. IT NEEDS ONE.

... Probably going to be a Red Demon recolor or something, which gets a second form as well. Who knows. Lol.
Slow progress is better than no progress. :)

That'll work. :)
Here's some of the progress I've made.
The titles are mostly random, and if it turns out that Cave Story can't handle the long titles, I'll shorten them. (I think 25 characters would work, but I'm not too sure here.)

Myst: Entry to Demise
- Entered from Reservoir SP after beating certain bosses in the Top Floor
- Has a puzzle - two corridors with six doors each. To continue, one must find the right door; the wrong door leads to the previous area. (Planned; not yet definite.)

Myst: Blood Garden
- Entered from Myst: Entry to Demise
- Fairly straight-forward, just run around, jumping, killing enemies, avoiding death traps, reach the final door. (Enemies still undecided.)

Myst: Demise of Nexash
- Entered from Myst: Blood Garden
- No idea what this place will be like

Myst: Desire of Demise
- Entered from Myst: Demise of Nexash
- No idea what this place will be like

Myst: Demise of the Maiden
- Entered from Myst: Desire of Demise
- Has a boss fight
- Other than that, no idea what the place will be like

Progress is, as always, slow - I'm procrastinating a lot, to be honest.
More playing video games than working on Lunar Shadow, but whatever.
I've yet to think of a fitting theme for the Myst area, but... who knows?

Does that make Shane "Prince", then?
No.

Anyway, kinda sad that Alexis (LS) has no portraits ("face pics"), but that's hard to sprite, so it's understandable.
I can't promise anything, but I'll try to ask around, at least.

Kim is busy with the Confusion Zone (as well as procrastinating somewhat); this most likely explains her inactivity.
From what I can understand, it will require either some "arcanum" thing or some or other wings, so I have no idea.

(Haven't played the mod, in all honesty; I'll probably play it when I get an off day and when the Alexis boss is added.)
O_O

... who knows.

Though Arcanum or Valkyrie Wings being needed, would be interesting.
There are areas that the Valkyrie Wings would not be able to help. Likewise, there are areas that Arcanum cannot help with.
(At least, I think. Haven't tested yet, due to lack of interest caused by lack of enemies in general.)

FINALLY SOME PROGRESS

My head's clear now. There has been some changes to old rooms, and...

... an entirely new area that can be accessed from Reservoir SP after beating the Witches. It lacks a name, but I'll put up a poll for that when I get to work on it.

YAAAAAAY

To be honest I wish the things from Beta Cave Story are in Cave Story 2; the TV Tropes page for Cave Story says that Pixel has confirmed that a sequel is very likely.
That's just wishful thinking, etc. though ^^;
... you do realize there's more than one Cave Story 2, right?

WHAT
Nineteen hours is a lot; you must've been rather tired.
You didn't skip out on a few evenings of sleep, have you?
Sleep is important.
I might've... :-[

Maybe that's why Snorlax sleeps a lot?
It took him years to finally stand up, I hear.

She could, but she's too hardheaded. I did say that she can borrow my computer, but she refused, saying that she would prefer to use her own computer, rather than borrow one. My stepcousin (who helped determine why the computer broke down) said she would try to repair it, though I have no idea how long it would take. Worse, Kim said that even if she could get it repaired, she would not have the money for it.
The best bet would be to get a new hard drive and get a professional to recover all of the data, which would cost a lot of money.
(I might have to ask my sister Lily to help with that; her habit of saving money is a bit extreme but if it saves Kim from having to pay rent like usual instead of "paying" rent by working on Lunar Shadow... then I suppose it will not hurt to ask. Yes, Kim lives with myself and my sisters and stepsisters, as well as the aforementioned stepcousin and also another friend. It is rather complicated, is it not?)
Had I chosen to borrow a computer, I might've started getting impatient.
Patience is something that's always important, after all, hence why I chose not to borrow a computer.

Either way, I have you and your sister Lily to thank for the payment of the repairs; I really owe you two a lot. :)

The evening she uploaded the Pre-Alpha Kim did say her computer was making weird sounds; aside from the Pre-Alpha Release of version 4, she has made a back-up that included each and every note, map, etc. that she would need.

I suppose she did not want us to be bored while we wait or something?

At least we can work on bug-hunting the Pre-Alpha, no matter how many bugs there are. It should help with when she can finally work on the mod, that she can immediately take out the bugs and do what she can to finish this great mod.
You got that right, Dia :)
Can't just leave without a little gift of pre-alpha testing, even if it's totally made of bugs and whatnot.
Better than nothing, I suppose, but it should suffice as I can tell there exists a list of things to fix. ^^
I also owe the pre-alpha testers a lot :)

In case there's any new posts at the Cave Story forums' thread (assuming there is one; I can't access those forums), someone might have to answer on her behalf where possible. :o
* glomps *

That aside, there wasn't a lot of new posts there (at least, in terms of notifications; only 16 of those while I thought there'd be 64).

That's good to hear. My guess is that half of the time spent for the recovery is instaling the games all over again :D. In a few days Kim will be back and the forums will be active again. :3
Yeah, most of the games are back :)
And I'm back, yeah, though not for long (I do have LS to work on, after all :P ) unless I feel lazy and want to take a day off from modding.

Indeed.
Kinda wondering, though, what Kim was up to between 18 March and when she will return, though.
Plan out the future Lunar Shadow mods (X and Zero), perhaps?
Planning the Confusion Zone area?

All we can do is wait~
Planning two more mods on Newerth, actually; though, I'll make those only if there are loose ends left to tie up.
Lunar Shadow was planned as a trilogy, and any more might make things about as confusing as Kingdom Hearts' plot.

Well, this may not be related to the mod, but there is some progress on Kim's computer thing.
The hard drive is replaced, but data recovery will take a while (and according to my stepcousin Amy, that might take anywhere from several hours to as much as a week to find those files and recover it).

Excuse me? Pixel said it was very UNlikely their to be a sequel. He barely finished Kero Blaster because he had next to none motivation near finishing it. The last rumour was from NICALIS' Macbook where they saw Cave Story 2... and Super 1001 Spikes Turbo... so It ended up more like a dev joke rather than real thing.

Edit: I'm sorry, this sounded assholishly :(

The mini-Balrogs are actually from the Cave Story beta. Or rather, from what little is known about it. This page (http://www.cavestory.org/game-info/beta.php) comes in handy.

In fact, the cake and the diving mask thing from Serenity's beach outfit is also from the pics, as are some of the tiles (like most of the Servant Quarters, mostly).

I'll try~

Indeed.Sometimes I don't know what I'm doing though.
The Central Tower is gonna be complicated, since flight would be a major requirement there. And then after Azehr's boss fight, the tower would be damaged and thus have less platforms that can be jumped on. (Permanently, possibly.)
That's the plan though.

Lore-wise, I think I might make that room important...

I might just do that. ^^

I'm more of a Fire-type person :P
1St Trial and error always works.
3Rd Many thing happening at the end. Of course the last part should be really hard.

Yeah, it's temporary.
And that's the entrance.

Say, what's the canonical ending of the mod? Is it completing the Confusion Zone, or just beating the boss and getting out of there?
I haven't thought about that, though I'd say that the latter is the best ending.

Also, there are blocks that aren't blocks. ;)
(Shoot suspicious walls.)

1st: If you can make the door create a feel of curiosity in the player, well.... he he 8)

2nd: New text boxes. Yay. :D Making the mod in different stile than CS is for the good.

3rd: Lame reward? Sadly yeah. Maybe something lore-wise must be more rewarding. And still:

EDIT:
Now with major setback, apparently.
Why she starts at 6 AM with modding, only she would know... though she did delete the statue room by accident, forcing her to do everything there all over again. And that just from trying to rename it.
Thank goodness she had that glitch with the statue rooms, then; otherwise the script would have been lost eternally and her work would be even harder.

Setbacks will be inevitable, I suppose. :(

I now have 100% motivation to work on the mod
So now I will get back to work
And not procrastinate

Also I forgot there's a mermaid in the mod.
Her name shall thus be Natsumi, the name that I had decided in early February to be Eron Armweak's name. (Which changed, to reference Fullmetal Alchemist in a way.)

Also, the ORG requests are finished and thus the next beta will have them.

Kim, will you participate in ModCon2015 or Moding Awards 2015. I think there is a pretty big chance of winning best story.
While I won't participate in ModCon at all, I'm not sure how the Modding Awards work, but if it's just nominate-and-vote, I won't mind.

If I were to take part in the ModCon thing, that would mean deadlines and I'm not a fan of them when it comes to modding. I prefer to take my time. :)

(Speaking of which I really need to start working again before I forget about the mod entirely. The Confusion Zone has music now, though only one map that can't be accessed at all at the moment.)

I can safely say I royally messed up here. :))

I'll ask at the CS forums, since that'd be more helpful than anything else, I reckon.
I mean, keeping it that way would be weird.

EDIT:
It has been repaired at last :))
Though, considering the final boss's statue turns into a statue of his sister's... uh, yeah.
I am definitely gonna have to switch statues, now.

Top Floor H glitch: basically, all the statues, when they become shootable, look the same and are out of place when destroyed. Looks ridiculous.

The previous boss (plot spoiler) will have all weapons set to level 1, though another "all weapons to level 1" thing from the next bosses might be helpful (as, in order to get the ultimate weapon that replaces the Spur, plot boss will have to be beaten).
For the testing thing, I just set the starting point to Top Floor H (a statue room, which is currently full of bugs), and started with 80 HP, Misery's End, Arcanum, Acidic Bubble, Life Pot, Valkyrie Wings and Save Disk, and set flag 1450 for an elevator in Top Floor A.
Said elevator is slow, sadly, but at least it'll let you obtain three treasures (unconfirmed what they are) without losing the elevator. (Unless it goes off-screen.)
After Top Floor A, to the west/left, is Top Floor SC, where another plot boss is.
Then, the "Top Floor, Throne" area where the final boss fights will be.
Cool.

Screenshot time!
Beware, there might be plot spoilers. If you don't care about plot spoilers, feel free to look at the spoilers, but know that anything related has to be posted in spoilers as well, please.

Wow. Very neat. The finale is going to be epic. If there are a $#!+ ton of obstacle/particle/bullets like in every Touhou or bullet-hell game in general I'll jump of the roof from happiness. [If someone ask how to fuse the 2 genres here is a video]

Bonus area huh. Dreams do come true :D. About the Misery's End final boss It looks neat. Maybe a black wind will be good for the final boss so it can be more of a treat. And since ME is the most powerfull at level 1 most people will be using it.

1st. For the countdown (Like La-Mulana or every Metroid) let's say you have 5 minutes to go all the way back. If the timer runs out you're dead. But what's the purpose of the countup. I just can't think of an idea.
For all intents and purposes, it will be the same as in the original Cave Story.
If you beat Ballos, the timer stops and is recorded, for instance; depending on how fast it was, the title screen music changes.
The same would apply to Lunar Shadow - if you escape the castle (by leaving it entirely, which, before then, would result in a bad ending), the timer stops and is recorded, and the title screen music changes depending on how fast the castle was escaped. Only, unlike Cave Story, the Nikumaru (?) thing won't be in the inventory.

Of course, this would require ASM hacking, as the times required would be at least beyond five minutes. (I myself am uncertain of how long it'll take, due to the Top Floor and Tower areas not being completed yet.)

2nd. If it's a count up, I'm totally OK. But a ton of enemies or Falling blocks ( 1x1 a big quantity of them but dealing little damage as of the sort of 1-3) will help getting the RUN FOR YOUR LIFE feel.
It might be either; as of this post, I'm still uncertain, but if I do add a bonus area, it might have falling blocks.

3-HP runs will not have the falling blocks though; that would be too difficult, perhaps too difficult even for Lunaris. :o
Some progress on the maps.

It involves the Top Floor area. It's gonna be neat :)

What I am willing to say, however, is that after the final boss, you will have to escape the castle.
It's not fully planned yet, but I am working on it.

In the Castlevania games, the protagonists escape it automatically and that's the end.
In La-Mulana, while it's the same in the original (professor escapes via cutscene, place falls apart), the remake has a 5-minute timer in which the professor has to escape the ruins.

In Lunar Shadow, however, the castle, while falling apart, has to be escaped manually, but there's no countdown - on the contrary, there's going to be a count-up, so the faster you escape the castle, the less the time displayed will be.
Warp Doors will also be disabled (the castle magic is beyond use), and the only save point available is in the throne room of the final boss (or, for Dev Team members, in their inventory, which is a bit of a game-breaker) as the countdown begins after leaving the throne room.
Also, there will still be enemies, but the NPCs that lived will have escaped. (RUN RUN RUN)

I have no idea about falling blocks, though. I had trouble with the Sacred Grounds B2 area due to falling blocks. Lots of it.

Oh, and Level 2 Misery's End really brings an end to the second form of the final boss; total damage reached something in the 100s while it did nothing. (Those shockwaves are helpful still~)

The ItemImage.bmp file's sprites for the Valkyrie Wings are from the owl in NpcEggs1.bmp - better to actually use the sprites (even if partially), than have them go to waste, I reckon.
Of course, the Valkyrie Wings/Wings (not like there are other wings in the mod) lack the owl since it would look ridiculous.

But yeah, a day off or a week, or who-knows-how-long.
The longest the break could be would be when Shane returns, though the shortest could be at most a day or a week.
I myself am uncertain at the moment, since I'm really worried about Shane at the moment.

I also wanted to ask him to sprite some of the Top Floor enemies.

Wouldn't know about that, though it's probably going to be about as plot-spoilering as with Valkyrie.

Valerie won't be a boss at all, despite being with the witches as of posting this.

Guilty :-[

In any event, I'm impressed with the progress made thus far. I'll check the mod out when I get back from this boring vacation...
Got it.
Progress update:
Shinica and Valerie now have face pics! Serenity and Ataraxis (a new character who hides in Top Floor SC, which cannot be accessed legitimately as of this post) both have more face pics.
If you leave Xyz for later, rather than beat it before Sycor, then:
Also, Xyz will have one extra possible cutscene (at the moment).
In the current release, Xyz's room has four possible cutscenes, so it's safe to say the next release will have five cutscenes.

Have five of them!
(They're based off of one of the Cave Story Beta screenshots at the Tribute Site, technically.)
THE CAKE WAS REAL?! :o
I honestly thought you were just joking about the cake...

That's the second-last room of the Top Floor (where the second-last boss is).
I almost didn't survive, and I didn't use the Save Disk or Life Pot items I started out with when testing that. :o
Maybe have the boss teleport around between the battles?
That'd be evil...

80 starting HP, with Acidic Bubble, Arcanum and Misery's End. (Need to write something on that for the Library.)
Due to the size of the room, where he ends up is hard to figure out. He might teleport close to you, or not.
And no, that's not the master. That's the Doctor. (The Master will appear when I finish his sprites.)
And will be evil.

His other forms are not done yet, either. (But I died five times to the last one.)
Those shockwaves helped, really; the bones give XP and hearts so it's easier than Ballos was :)
Wow, that tough huh :o

Also, in-universe there's a book series of which the total amount of pages are equal to 33 411 pages.
And that's for ten books.

What.
Yeah. WHAT.

Basically, it's about a young girl who goes on adventures doing various things. Like "Ginny Anderson and the Strawberry Crisis". And various other ridiculous titles.
The first book has about 1020 pages. And it keeps on getting more - the final book has 10696 pages ("Ginny Anderson and the End of Existence"). The author, R.K. José-von Karma, is somehow a trillionaire (if not richer than that).
Serenity finds the books boring, though. (The plots are ridiculous - seriously, trying to stop a madman from eating all the strawberries which would otherwise lead to some kind of crisis?)
I see what you did there

"Ginny Anderson and the xxxx"
"Harry Potter and the xxxx"
The naming formats are similar.
Then, there's the "Strawberry Crisis" thing, which is also the name of a Touhou song.

Also, the author of the Harry Potter series is a J.K. Rowling.
The author of the Ginny Anderson series is a R.K. José-von Karma (hyphenated last names? Really?).
All three have "JKR" in the names.

There will also be books by Lunadine "Luna" von Terra (who appears in the mod) and books related to Invidia (in beta 2 of version 3) and Arcanum (newly added) as well as Misery's End (currently being added).
Cool. So, Luna and Shinica's last name would be "von Terra".

I doubt Bloody Tears will be in version 3, though I'll just remain patient. :)
Honestly, how do you manage to stay patient this long? :o
I don't know when you requested it, but you're more patient than Dianke, as far as I know. (She's not a patient person, usually.)

The second-last boss starts off easy (50 HP for 7 forms, all of which are the same) and is similar to the maids from the Servant Quarters. Easy to dodge, and so on; those spikes and blocks above them aren't there.
Then, after that, the boss teleports away and reappears on-screen and the final form (300 HP) will be battled. (I have a lot of trouble with the last form, if only due to using only a level 1 Misery's End and nothing else.)
Sounds interestingly... evil.

Nope. At least, not necessarily.

While Version 4 will add the Tower and Top Floor areas, there might be a Version 5 depending on the following:
  • Bugs we may have missed (it's possible, especially with Xyz having various cutscenes now)
  • The addition of a bonus dungeon or not (I'm still thinking about it, though if one is added it will be called the "Confusion Zone", and its goal would be to be as perplexing as possible and generally make life hellish for the player because the Confusion Zone is evil like that)
  • Other stuff and updates due to the prequel Lunar Shadow Zero or the sequel Lunar Shadow X
  • The possibility also exists that version 4 will only add the Tower area, or the Top Floor area, and a version 5 be released to add the other area not included. Of course, as Azehr is a mandatory boss, the true final boss would be in version 5 in both cases of this possibility. I'm not sure just yet, anyway.
  • Version 4 will also be released far from February, most likely - it depends on when those song requests are finished, really.
- Bugs are everything we do not want
- Uh... that'll be frustrating
- Oh, my.
- So are all bosses mandatory?
- I see...

Anyway, progress is such that the mod can be officially released as version 3a. (Just have to upload it.)
Hopefully there won't be any bugs to encounter; though, if there are, well, they can be fixed.

(I may or may not have forgotten a few bugs. If I did just shout at me through a megaphone or something.)
Won't that hurt? :P

So the second last boss will be hard as firetruck. (No seriously, try to blow up some of them. Rocket or Granade Lauchers are basically using ~ and cv_cheat 1) Well almost everyone will save their live pot so their inventory can be heavier so why not make the boss even more harder so they can make their inventory lighter :P

Also what is the book series all about. I mean 10 books, man this beated Harry Potter so bad that Pottermore is crying bloody tears all over again. (I should stop watching over-sarcastic comedies.)

Have five of them!
(They're based off of one of the Cave Story Beta screenshots at the Tribute Site, technically.)

That's the second-last room of the Top Floor (where the second-last boss is).
I almost didn't survive, and I didn't use the Save Disk or Life Pot items I started out with when testing that. :o
Maybe have the boss teleport around between the battles?

80 starting HP, with Acidic Bubble, Arcanum and Misery's End. (Need to write something on that for the Library.)
Due to the size of the room, where he ends up is hard to figure out. He might teleport close to you, or not.
And no, that's not the master. That's the Doctor. (The Master will appear when I finish his sprites.)

His other forms are not done yet, either. (But I died five times to the last one.)
Those shockwaves helped, really; the bones give XP and hearts so it's easier than Ballos was :)

Also, in-universe there's a book series of which the total amount of pages are equal to 33 411 pages.
And that's for ten books.

What.

The Top Floor is dummied out, yes. Just accessible via cheating. :o
Ah.

Alexis is not the true final boss.

Also, in vanilla Cave Story, Ballos's max HP totals to 3808 (throughout all his forms). The master's is 3108 (as of posting this, since it might change).
Cool.

Also, there will be cake in a future version, as soon as I sprite it. (Here goes~!)
So...
It won't be a lie? :o

Oh, and Xyz's forms? Those will now rely on how long you've postponed to battle Xyz.
If you beat the Ghost Dragon Sisters first and then battle Xyz, you'll get his second form (and a "level 1" reset courtesy of Shinica).

(Thus, his second form's attacks will be boosted.)

Also, depending on when you fight Xyz, dialogues change. However, to get deeper into the Top Floor, you have to beat Xyz, Sycor, Irving, Micren, Grialdyn and Valkyrie (and probably Azehr as well).
Interesting.

Azehr and Alexis both "guard" the last starting room treasury, as well - it's empty in version 3, but won't be when Azehr and Alexis's boss fights are added.
I see.

And the beach outfit looks different.
Really? :o

So far, it looks like I'll have enough space for a bonus dungeon after all, but in the event that there is one, it will most likely be after the Top Floor area is finished.
If I add the bonus dungeon, well, I have about eight maps for that. Ten, maybe. I don't know, myself...
That'd be awesome! :)

Anyway, while I'm currently adding the Tower and Top Floor maps, they won't be accessible (or fully complete either) - those are just to make certain that I don't accidentally use those maps for other purposes (like cutscenes). You can expect water in the Top Floor area.

Also, a girl named Valerie will probably appear in the mod, in the Top Floor.
So they're dummied out?

Lastly, just to get everyone hyped up again~ >:3

* it's not very effective *

Dianke made modifications to the tileset of the Sacred Grounds last year, but never used it in Obscuro Lumen Venenum Aeris. So, it's now used in Lunar Shadow (with her permission).
I almost forgot she made one Cave Story mod before she quit due to various reasons :o

Bosses: aside from the Master and the Witches, there's also a few other bosses. Who are they? A secret, though one of them will have an Aura as well.

One of these bosses have, at the moment, 300 HP + (50 × 7) HP = 650 HP
The combined HP of the Witches are currently 700 HP, though their HP will have to be changed slightly.
The Master... let's see. He has about 3108 HP (instead of 3808 HP) as of posting this.
Alexis has, for comparison, 1000 HP (despite being older than him).
Wait...
Alexis has less HP than her brother, yet she's older.
So, this means she might be the true final boss if that's a thing that happens.

Also, why "instead of 3808 HP"? :o

...

Was the cake a lie?
There wasn't any to begin with, unless you're secretly planning on adding some. (Would be awesome.)

Well that's going to be a big pain in the @$$  :D.
With more than one weapon, it'll probably go easier. (And more HP, and not taking damage which is inevitable given the small room.)

(click to show/hide)
The sprite sheet of the boss in that folder is only used temporarily until I have a special sprite sheet made for this boss.
(There is no crystal, thankfully. That boss needs no crystal for her ultimate form.)

Also, the boss won't be available in version 3; it's just while I'm waiting for the beta testers to complete beta testing (however long that may take; being patient is important).

Her first "six" forms are basically the same AI as those bots in the Servant Quarters - walk around, shoot, walk around, shoot some more, etc. and as those bots have 50 HP, the boss's first "six" forms all have 50 HP as well. (The boss herself gets tired of it after a while.)

Also do you have plans for a hell-like level where at the end of it you have a really really hard boss which drops the most powerfull weapon in the game (i guess spur alternative).
I'm afraid not. The current plans for the entire Castle will most likely require a lot of maps (of which the maximum is 101 since adding more maps after that breaks the game, which, if I'm not mistaken, requires ASM hacking).

It's because of that, which I scrapped some of the Servant Quarters' rooms. Originally, it would use 23 maps, but now it uses only 12 rooms.

I'm a bit bored, so I'm just playing around now.

One of the bosses will be just before the Master's boss fight, and she's a tough one.
Her first six forms all have 50 HP each, but they act the same. (So basically, it's just one form.)
Her second form is tougher, and there's spikes as well. (Unless I'm mistaken, these spikes deal only two points of damage, instead of five or ten.)

The second form has no sprites yet, so it's using old sprites at the moment; I'll probably post a pic or two of the boss later this year.

Funnily enough, with the Level 1 Misery's End and 40 max HP, I barely survived (though there was no spikes) at 7 HP. :o
Serenity must've been lucky.

So Valkirie boss fight will be the landmark of ver 3 as far as i see it. Phase 2 is still not shown which makes ne more hype. I mean you wouldn't keep it secret if it wasn't something totally cool and mindblowing.
Actually, I'm keeping the second form secret because of spoiler reasons that will be learned of in version 3 beta 2.

So Arcania is a machine gun with a snake effect? Well that is going to be OP :D. But getting it later in the game should do it justice.
Only at level 3 does it go through walls, but it's handy for taking out various monsters on the other side if they're powerful and you have low HP (3 HP, for instance). :)
Of course, getting it might be puzzling, but statues give hints at times.

About that Kim=Castle Master thing i Desided to make a joke and pu thought to it. :D that's it.
An interesting joke :))

Beta 2 is coming out. Nice. Sadly I won't be able to play it all at once dueing the week due to parents -_- (I'm 15 and they are still watch over me so... yeah) I count onLunaris to cover the most of it while I'll try to break it every way possible. I guess I'll need half to full week to test it all out. :( .My hope is that it can read the saves from ver 3 so I can jump directly in the new thing in an hour or so. Sill excited, can't wait to play. :)
It's okay; I kinda need a break to rest from all the late nights I've spent working on the second beta. :)
Take as long as you need to~

I'll handle it as best as I possibly can, from the very beginning :)
Which is sort-of recommended as a result of new stuff, but having the Ultimate Doukutsu Program ready will be helpful as well.
Some save points were moved around as some of the rooms were made larger - for example, Reservoir SP is now 42×16 tiles, due to the Warp Doors added.

Though, to be honest, I'm surprised; I kinda thought you were a year older than me. (I'm also 15.)
Well I thought that YOU are older than me. :D Well that's funny. :D
You both turn 16 this year, while Dia turns 17 in June, and Shane and I turn 19.
Shane's birthday is on the 25th of this month, actually.

@ Kim:
- Wait, Valkyrie's second form... does nothing? That's boring. :o Or is there something we don't know?
Currently, all it does is float and take damage and wish to reach 0 HP so that it can stop suffering.

- Serenity's portraits (I prefer to call them that rather than "face pics") look okay. :)
Thank you.

- Level 3 Arcanum is weaker than level 2 in terms of damage, huh? Yet it's still unique. Interesting :)
Yeah, should be helpful for 3-HP runs. Perhaps. ;)

7. I guess that makes sense. Otherwise you'll have to fix every little bug that you see, even if it's barely a minute of testing.
Exactly.

As of now, I'm working on those areas :))

8. Arcanum? That name sounds familiar... looks unique, though :)
9. Wait, with a Life Capsule and school uniform? Uh...
Yeah, the weapon name comes from the word "arcanum" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/arcanum).
The secret of Arcanum is that...
(click to show/hide)
And yes. Maximum life currently possible seems to be nearing 60... not sure, though; I'll get around to finding the exact value when I'm done with the new Warp Doors~

3. Uh... not sure that death traps are a good idea, but whatever...
So about the terminal i suggest placing a save point nearby, because some people can rage over-the-top from those death traps.
Already did :)
It's in the room where Serenity first meets Alexis, though it only appears after the "boss fight".
It's more of a playable cutscene, though; you can't open your inventory if you stand on the ground (due to H/V triggers and several frames of nothing happening). This also seems to render you invulnerable from most things (things like spikes and Monster X driving over the player character still deal damage)
Basically, if you stand on one of the higher blocks before Alexis says "Scared yet?", and remain there afterwards, you can open your inventory and take damage from Alexis's attacks and such.

Said room (Servant Quarters P) leads to Servant Quarters K (the Terminal Room) and Servant Quarters C (which is new and can be accessed from the Library part).
You gain access to another save room (Servant Quarters RR) after opening the Lunar Gate (castle emblem block), and said save room has a Warp Door to the Entrance as well.
After opening the Void Gate (empty block), you can access a new room (Servant Quarters Y), where you obtain Arcanum.
After opening the Bubble Gate (... Acidic Bubble block), you can go to Servant Quarters DI ("Dimensional Interstice", though I don't know why that's called so).

I actually have a few pics uploaded a few minutes ago, regarding the DI area of the Servant Quarters.

(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)

Arcanum looks neat and as you said I hope it won't end up just a resprite.
It's slightly weaker than the normal Machine Gun, as of a few hours ago:
- Level 1: 1 damage, 3 hits (for a total of 3 damage), has a range of 15.
- Level 2: 3 damage, 2 hits (for a total of 6 damage), has a range of 20.
- Level 3: 5 damage, 1 hit (for a total of 5 damage), has a range of 25, if aimed downwards, you can basically fly - Eron won't mind if you use that to gather the unobtainable Life Capsules, at the moment, though she should probably say something about using a weapon to fly. Oh, and it ignores solid tiles.

Not sure how the range works, though I would assume it's the amount of frames the bullet will remain on screen.
Anyway.

Also you said that the castle master likes puzzles and so he placed the puzzles. But practicly you placed the puzzles. Kim, are you the castle master.  :o Is that the plot twist.
And you wanted to see how far the player can get into the castle so you can see is the player good or not :o . And you said that you'll destroy the world unless someone stopes you. That means you want to see if the mod is too hard and noone can reach the master (or you) or noone caring about the world(or the mod) thus making you abadoning it or destroing it. :o You are the master Kim. :o

I hope that's legit as hell :D
Nice guess, but sadly, nope, I'm not the master~
The Castle Master's true intentions will be revealed later on.

Interesting guess, though :)

When I'm done with the Warp Doors being added, I'll most likely release Version 3 Beta 2 for the Beta Testers to, well, beta test.

- If you mean beating her with the Crescent Moon, well... I cheated there (getting the Spur) if only to hurriedly test that cutscene.
- Patience will let you listen to it. :P
- Don't worry; each Key Treasure Chest has a hint and stuff. Though, the Servant Quarters K area is evil - if you use the wrong key on a terminal, it creates a deathtrap. How do you know what key fits? The symbols. (The castle master really likes those kinds of puzzles. Hence, a save point in the previous room.)
(click to show/hide)
- I will consider doing so after progress on the Servant Quarters is almost complete.
- ... you won't quit asking if there's a Sycor rematch, will you?
(click to show/hide)
- I wonder that, myself.

Anyway, I decided to postpone work on the Warp Door areas that are not on the Castle Entrance, at least until all the Warp Doors for version 3 are finished.
That way, I can just copy-and-paste the scripts for the Warp Doors, which saves me time. (And then figure out where they lead to, etc. so that'll take a while).

Oh, by the way, you can now obtain a new weapon: the Arcanum.
It works like the Machine Gun from vanilla Cave Story, however; at the moment there's nothing uniquely different about it just yet.

Level 1:

Level 2:

Level 3:

Also, you get the Arcanum in a room in the Servant Quarters, as well as being able to get a +3 Life Capsule and a school uniform.
(Apparently, the master decided school uniforms should be guarded by statues and deathtraps.)

Not to mention the ridiculous statue of some ancestor guy in the Servant Quarters area; it changes its text each time you look at it, and after the sixth (?) time it begins all over again.

I'd like to listen to Lunar Song :3
First edit:
Thank you for mentioning it; now I know not to click that link. (Not going to have another twenty-something hours spent on TV Tropes. D: )
Second edit:
* blank stare *
Seriously? A sentient weapon that used to be a powerful being? One who (unwillingly or willingly?) changed herself into a gun that fires lightning bolts at targets?
I... have to see this to believe it. Only then will I know if I find it neat or not.

Also, key-hunting puzzles? Urgh. Key-hunting puzzles are as good as Lunarisbane ;-;
Third edit:
Please add it to version 3, even if only a small portion :<
Is that boss a Sycor rematch? =3

Also, I wonder how a combo of Moonsong and Balcony would sound like? :o
Both are peaceful, serene... and awesome. In my opinion.

Don't worry about it; knowing Shane, he'd probably also think the same.

Anyway, more screenshots of PROGRESS having taken place.

(http://www.createaforum.com/gallery/lunarshadowcs/0/1-140215012235-801023.png)(http://www.createaforum.com/gallery/lunarshadowcs/0/1-140215012235-81213.png)(http://www.createaforum.com/gallery/lunarshadowcs/0/1-140215012236-84932.png)(http://www.createaforum.com/gallery/lunarshadowcs/0/1-140215012235-82676.png)(http://www.createaforum.com/gallery/lunarshadowcs/0/1-140215012236-831344.png)

This boss fight is intended to be impossible to win, as it's part of a cutscene.
However, one might say I thought of everything (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything) in regards to this boss fight: in the event that the player somehow wins, a special dialogue will appear (while the last picture is of that, I forgot to make certain there was text on-screen). Of course, she has 1000 HP (apparently) so that's easier said than done to get that...

Also, this is actually the first time Shinica, Luna or Alexis's names are mentioned in the mod, and the second time (I think) that Serenity's name is mentioned -- yes, somehow Alexis knows what it is.
And something about Serenity's five-year old cousin Valerie being at the castle, I dunno. All I know is, a plot twist I mentioned way back is not even in the mod just yet.
It will, however, appear once Alexis is battled for real at the Tower area. (When she has that aura of hers.)

Basically, she's battling you without an aura, and you could possibly win if you are powerful enough to do so (and manage to survive).
Those blocks held up by the pillar? Those are solid... but only to the player, so you can stand on it, but NPCs cannot.

Also, Shinica has her own theme at that point ("Lunar Song", a modification of "Moonsong").

EDIT:
Eep. I've started linking to TV Tropes...
My life has been ruined :o

EDIT EDIT:
Either Newerthians enjoy making up ridiculous myths and legends, or Nemesis and Invidia are actually sentient guns who used to be goddesses or something (as the descriptions state "lightning of the goddess").

Three keys have been added, so in order to reach Valkyrie, one requires to defeat Micren (to get the Bubble Key), Grialdyn (to get the Void Key) and open the two empty treasure chests in the castle (to allow one to obtain the Lunar Key).

Also, at least for now, Invidia teleports itself away in the Reservoir boss fight (out of fear of the boss corrupting it and making it evil). Being a sentient gun who used to be a goddess (according to mythology anyways), it might make sense to some people.
This will most likely be temporary, unless people find it neat and all.
But they'll probably find it ridiculous.

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
A small part of the Eastern Tower can now be accessed, and a Warp Door to the Entrance (and back) is a thing.
Central Tower will most likely take a while, if I do add it to version 3...

But anyway! The entry point (Tower RR / "Right Reservoir") has a boss fight, but unless you cheat, you can't access it yet. (Because it's literally going to be impossible to reach due to deathtraps.)
And beating the boss will result in weirdness ensuing. This boss is intended to be a bonus rematch boss. The reward... is also inaccessible, but opening it creates a deathtrap. (Unless you beat the boss, when the boss is fully finished.)
This boss will work similarly to a boss in a previous area, BUT also harder due to the deathtraps and lack of platforms to stand on.

There's also the Tower ES area, with monsters, and the Tower DL area, with the Warp Door. And monsters.

While the Western Tower has Moonsong, the Eastern Tower has Balcony.
I'm not sure what song would be used for the Central Tower, though... maybe a combination of the two songs? :o

... I really have to focus on the other Warp Rooms like the ones in the Laboratory and Reservoir areas...
Can't postpone those any longer, now, can I?

So Sycor is more powerfull. Great. That will be bigger challenge even with lv3 Invidia.
Actually, Sycor is unchanged.
I take it you refer to this pic?

That's been there since the original Cave Story, actually. There are nine Crescent Moon bullets visible, though.
In other words, it's more like an Exploding Moon than a Crescent Moon.

Edit: Is it possible to have a original boss in game. Just asking.
It would, although that requires ASM hacking (which I'm horrible at).
It'd probably require Booster's Lab-Hackinator usage (which is how the Crescent Moon was modified and the various costumes were possible).
Not to mention I have no idea who could work on the boss in the first place to make it entirely unique.

Or did I misunderstand the question?

The Crescent Moon is now mandatory.

(click to show/hide)

Also, now you can't reach a situation where you have to fight a boss without any weapons (like was possible before in the Reservoir).
Not sure about how Invidia can be taken away, though... (still?!)

Perhaps it will be needed in order to open a door in the Reservoir area, and stolen while the player is off-screen?

I like the possible future :)

Also, that tile set is awesome.

EDIT:
I'm just guessing here, but the Japanese for "Lunar Shadow" would probably be:
月の影
Tsuki no kage

In case you feel like adding Japanese to the mod. (Going by those sprites...)

Wiktionary says that "shadow (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/shadow)" is (kage), but nothing on "lunar".
So I checked for "moon (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/moon)", which would be 衛星 (eisei).
I think (no) would be between those, though, as a noun modifier? This page (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%AE#Japanese) perplexes me, to be honest.

So... "Eisei no Kage"? 衛星の影

...

Okay, I'm confused now D8

Sycor? :3
Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know just yet. :P

School uniforms? Noooo D:
YES >:3

Wait, so fishnets are actually going to make an appearance of sort? :o
Sort of - it's impossible to actually outright sprite those, due to limitations, so it's just a light color (pink/orange/not-really-sure).

Can I ask what you mean?
Basically, the master of the castle is a total sociopath. A madman, a maniac.

Say, you wanted to figure out what tileset you could use for the Top Floor, right? Why not the original Cave Story's Sacred Grounds tileset?
Could work. :o

School Serenity is, well schoolish. Damn it I can't special for that outfit. If it has any special abilities the first coming to mind is knowledge and maybe having more ammo for the Acidic Buble since it's a spell and more knowledge means better spells right?
Possibly, though spells are forbidden on Tirahnys, and so illegal that just knowing a spell is punishable (except for elves).
I've updated the Tirahnys thread with a few laws; I wanted at least five laws before I started posting them.

Basically, Serenity is breaking the law in order to save the entire planet.
Which will most likely turn out to be for the better of Tirahnys, as it would force the corrupt Dark Elf president to acknowledge that she knew magic in order to save Newerth, and killing a heroine would most likely result in a rebellion.

I never watched One Piece so I can't say if it's good or not. Maybe I'll google it.
I googled it. Based on the amount of pixels I can say it's OK, Although many won't recognise her. Guess that's the problem in making old school games.
Yeah, it is indeed a problem...

Sycor look's near with that moon on his head. I guess more bosses are going to have something simmilar.
Currently...
- Xyz, Irving, Micren do not have the emblem
- Sycor, Grialdyn, Valkyrie do have the emblem
- Azehr is currently uncertain - I plan on having his true form with the emblem, at least

For the tileset so far, so good. I expect in a few days to be posted finished. Again great work.
If by "a few days" you mean "today", then it's finished, for now at least~

Ooh, okay.

I just numbered the replied parts in your post, rather than quoting it individually.
Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know just yet. Though, a bonus boss would be utterly brutal in the Tower, if I were to add one. Will I add one? Perhaps. Perhaps not. All I know is... if it is going to have one, it will possibly be an NPC that you have encountered in the past. :P
Sycor? :3

While I was considering making each outfit a decorative thing, perhaps having them grant useful abilities could be helpful.
That's be interesting :o

I'll get to work immediately and post it here as soon as possible. (And at the Cave Story forums as a status update, probably.)

Serenity cosplaying as Kalifa from One Piece. I found it ridiculously hard to sprite the glasses, strangely. So, I left them out. (Besides, Serenity can see perfectly well without glasses, and if she were to wear glasses she'd risk ruining her eyesight.) This outfit will definitely be hidden in the Top Floor area, and can only be obtained after you can reach the Master's Room - sometime before you battle Shinica and Luna, though.
Wait, so fishnets are actually going to make an appearance of sort? :o

Azehr looks like it's going to be great. It's a late game boss so i guess his attack while similar to Balrog will be more powerfull.
Hopefully.
Just need to figure out what entities Balrog falls under, but that's not too hard. :)

I love games with unlockable costumes. I love them so much and I was wondering where to search for search for such.a game. :3 I just love what you did there. And Serenity as a model at the end sounds neat. I just wonder if it's possible to have every costume granting different abilities.

Update on progress:
- The Servant Quarters maps are (almost) all done, in terms of the tiles.
-- As of posting this, the maps have yet to be linked to. Currently there is no events in the maps at all.
Well, this should be interesting :)
- Various rooms are now larger (a few of them having Warp Doors now). Warps affected by this are updated as well.
-- Warp Doors in other areas are not yet working, I will focus on this after I finish off more bugs
That's understandable. After all, best to fix the bugs first than to work on the new Warp Doors, right?
- If you have Invidia after beating Grialdyn, you can give it to Shinica (who will return it to you after the boss fight with her and Luna in the Top Floor, which isn't implemented yet).
-- As of posting this, I have yet to update the cutscene in the Reservoir where it gets stolen. I don't know how it will be stolen just yet; I require more help with that. Invisibility won't help, of course; that's just plain unfair.
Well, at least you can give it to Shinica without having it invisibly robbed from you. :P
- The Shinica cutscene in the Servant Quarters is rewritten somewhat and if you die after the cutscene played, the cutscene text is sped up somewhat (after you give her an item).
That's neat.
- The "Level Up", "Level Down", "Empty" and "ESC/F1/F2" text look different now
- This. (From previous post, but now with a screenshot.)
Going by that one screenshot, I'd say it looks epic!
- Cleaned up the Ghost Dragon Sisters boss fight a bit - aside from the tiles appearing after the boss fight having changed, there should now also be no way to clip outside of the arena. In the event that somehow you can clip out somehow (be it due to a glitch or cheating), I've made certain to have the camera focus on the player anyway. (Just. In. Case.)
Ah, that's clever.
- The signpost in Laboratory R now pauses the game. (Just be careful of the Gau'di attacking before reading it. :P )
THANK YOU
- Crosshair being misplaced is now fixed
That's great :)
- Blocks will now appear when you go to the save point in the starting screen from a Warp Door.
- The two (?) NPCs that walked around while spoken to will now pause the game (instead of standing still, unfortunately).
FINALLY
- The whole Grialdyn computer thing will now read:If Grialdyn is already visible it will read:
Broken quotes for some reason, but anyway, that seems cool!
- The Crescent Moon has been modified slightly:
-- At level 1, it has the longest range, but the weakest damage
-- At level 3, it has the shortest range, but the most damage
Not to mention the extra stuff?
- Servant Quarters E has been properly renamed to Servant Quarters ET (as it exits to both the Entrance and the Tower, rather than both).
Aww :<
Well, at least that makes sense?
- If you have three "unobtainable" Life Capsules, Eron Armweak will go to the appropriate cutscene instead of forcing you to talk to her again to get a bonus Life Capsule
Yay!
- Servant Quarters bosses will have different boss fight songs rather than Eyes of Flame
Cool :)

Actually, it's Love-Coloured Master Spark from Touhou. The ORG was made by Randolf, sometime in January? Not sure when exactly.

The Touhou version is pretty neat, too~
Love Coloured Master Spark (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6L6E7TLy10)
No wonder Dianke's a fan of it :o

As for Bloody Tears, well... it will most likely be used at the Top Floor area when that's added.
Which will take a while, as that area has no known tilesets at all. :o
Hm, why not focus on that area last?

Anyway, a little more progress between posting that and this:
- Absolutely no music plays on the starting screen until you enter the Entrance area
Why not? D:
Aside from the intro, I mean.
- The Entrance Life Pot chest should now be locked if you already have a Life Pot
That's a bug dealt with~
- Grialdyn should now disappear if you save in its room
Cool. That's one less issue!
- Computer should now switch off if Grialdyn is defeated
Sweet! :D

The Tower area at day. It took about an hour, but it is done, for now. I will probably update it when I need to.
That looks sweet :o

I might attempt a sunset version, but I don't know.
Currently Azehr (a boss) has two sprite sheets, one for night and one for day (though it looks more as though it would work for sunset).
Personally, I think a sunset variation would be lovely.

NOTE: the following information is what has been planned and is subject to change if it is required
.
Azehr is just a resprite of Balrog, though this boss has five forms. You can save before the first form, but trying to reach the top of the Tower will trigger the boss fight (and render it impossible to reach the top until you can access the Top Floor).

The first form is rather basic, Azehr just walks around and tries to eat Serenity.
The second form has him jump around and has him fire some sort of energy blast, though not sure if he does anything else just yet.
The third form is similar to how Balrog acts in the Power Room of Grasstown in vanilla Cave Story.
The fourth form is similar to how he acts in the Labyrinth Boulder Room in vanilla Cave Story.
The fifth form is similar to that Labyrinth ghost - defeating Azehr this last time will mean he will be deceased.
Wow, Azehr the five-form boss. I can't wait ;D

... will Azehr appear in version 3?

- Cleaned up the Ghost Dragon Sisters boss fight a bit - aside from the tiles appearing after the boss fight having changed, there should now also be no way to clip outside of the arena. In the event that somehow you can clip out somehow (be it due to a glitch or cheating), I've made certain to have the camera focus on the player anyway. (Just. In. Case.)
- The signpost in Laboratory R now pauses the game. (Just be careful of the Gau'di attacking before reading it. :P )
- Crosshair being misplaced is now fixed
- Blocks will now appear when you go to the save point in the starting screen from a Warp Door.
- The two (?) NPCs that walked around while spoken to will now pause the game (instead of standing still, unfortunately).
- The whole Grialdyn computer thing will now read:
Quote
Visibility can be granted to Grialdyn.
Set the moon to shine upon the dreaming
lass instead of the eternal darkness.
If Grialdyn is already visible it will read:
Quote
Invisibility can be granted to Grialdyn.
Set the moon to shine upon the eternal
darkness instead of the dreaming lass.
- The Crescent Moon has been modified slightly:
-- At level 1, it has the longest range, but the weakest damage
-- At level 3, it has the shortest range, but the most damage
- Servant Quarters E has been properly renamed to Servant Quarters ET (as it exits to both the Entrance and the Tower, rather than both).
- If you have three "unobtainable" Life Capsules, Eron Armweak will go to the appropriate cutscene instead of forcing you to talk to her again to get a bonus Life Capsule
- Servant Quarters bosses will have different boss fight songs rather than Eyes of Flame

Why not have the SP room of the Servant Quarters unlocked by defeating Valkyrie EX?

Update on the version:
The starting screen is larger, as are some of the SP rooms (such as the Laboratory one).

Working on fixing bugs at the moment, as well as, in short, invoking that "Anti-Frustration Features" trope so that people can use Warp Doors in most "SP" rooms.
The following rooms will contain Warp Doors to most areas:
- Castle Entrance
- Laboratory SP
- Reservoir SP

Other rooms, well, I haven't an idea just yet; the Tower (East) area along with the Servant Quarters DR area will work differently as they don't have "SP" areas just yet.

The final boss will use the AI of Fuyuhiko Date as well as Ballos. The boss fight might be in two separate maps, though.

A new room that not only references La-Mulana (the original, freeware version), but is also a key component in getting the good or best endings.
(The worst and bad endings are, well, not reliant on this room.)

And yes, that's the Acidic Bubble spell.
I see Hell Temple and the Dimensional Corridor in there...

The 3-HP mode will be added as well (removing all Life Capsules).
Whoever uses Ballos's AI will be a nightmare.

As of now, this is the Castle Map.

Red: save points
Orange: boss rooms
Yellow: Warp Doors
Green: Life Capsules
Turquoise: weapons
Blue: normal room
Pink: items

With the exception of blue, the colors override each other (so a room with a save point and a Warp Door will be red, whereas a room with a weapon and a boss will be orange).
That looks pretty neat. :)

Yeah, there are reasons for that and stuff. It's not definite that the castle will not change, after all. Change is inevitable even for the castle.

While I'm uploading the Beta, here's some more stuff~

Micren in his natural habitat (of boss fights). He can be rebattled over and over again, until you beat him without taking damage. He is kind enough to ask you if you want to battle him without the blocks (which I did, since the blocks come from both directions) and due to this, it's easier to beat him unharmed.

Of course, those who go on a 3-HP run and battle Micren with the blocks enabled... I wonder who'd manage that :o

A flawless victory results in Critters. Somehow.

Before midnight huh.  :o  Great.
I know...
Hopefully nothing will prevent that... about five hours for me, so I guess I now have a deadline~
One "unobtainable" Life Capsule to add, and a few more references.

Great to see so many bosses so far great work,
and the over and over boss sounds interesting.
Indeed. Though, if you beat the boss without taking damage, it can't be rebattled.
This might change in a future version once the reward has a purpose, though.

3-HP is basically CS+ hard mode. Which I won't finish ever never :D.
3 HP mode in Lunar Shadow will just remove Life Capsules entirely, provided I'm not too lazy~

Progress on Lunar Shadow version 3Beta is nearly finished.
I might be able to release it before midnight :o

The intro will be rewritten, and there are now four bosses in the Reservoir, one boss in the Tower and one boss in the Servant Quarters.

Also, one of those bosses can be battled over and over again, until a certain item is in one's inventory.

The 3-HP mode will be added as well (removing all Life Capsules). The Level 1 Boss Fights will not, however.

Again, no problem :)

And thank you.
Progress on the reservoir: there's now five treasure chests, though one of them is empty. (And all of them are underwater.)
One contains the Air Tank, another contains the Acidic Bubble spell.
The other two... well, that's gonna be secret 'til later :P

The empty treasure chest might be related to a future puzzle, I don't know yet...
If it is, it will most likely be related to the unreachable treasure chest in the Tower D area (with that weird clock).

Also, apparently cutscenes underwater still allow swimming. Huh.
So you could essentially swim while there's a text box on-screen.
Acidic Bubble is more powerful than the Crescent Moon, but the latter can break star blocks (while the former cannot).
Also, there's a third boss in the Reservoir (while, previously, two were planned). There will be a fourth, which guards something that allows you to fire more Acidic Bubbles. :)

There's also only three Life Capsules in the Reservoir area... huh. Guess that third "unobtainable" Life Capsule will have to go to the Tower area, then. (In one of the most evil rooms in that area, at least.)

@Lunaris, @alfasketer - considering you're both going to be Beta Testers, I figured statues in the Servant Quarters area will work, though currently I have nothing for those...
So could you please help with statues that represent you, if possible?

Even if it's just a description or an avatar or something; TPCool has Tornado Man from Mega Man 9.
The limit for the statues would be 32×32 pixels (excluding the base, including that, it'd be 32×48).
And there will most likely be NPCs based on the statues.

I'm not good at spriting, but since you're okay with a description...

Lunaris has long brown hair and green eyes, and white skin. She usually ties her hair into a ponytail, and likes gazing at the moon.
Her attire would most probably be jeans and a jacket, or something. I dunno, really.

My god an invisible boss. Yes. ;D
Although I thought It will be WAY smaller.
Good work.
Yeah, it's invisible if flag 0990 isn't set.
And thank you. :)

My my, an invisible boss actually in the mod :o
I'm curious, Kim - will the cutscenes in the future mention it being beaten while it was invisible or not?
If not, that ought to be interesting, really.
It sets flag 0829 when beaten in its invisible state, and it sets flag 0827 when defeated in its visible state.
So, yeah, it might.

Also, there's another use for the Life Pot?
Let me guess - a certain witch who appears often will require healing for some reason or other.
You got that right.

EDIT: wow, this thread's actually on its second page now :o
Cool. :)

... ironically, despite stating that I'd work on the Reservoir area, all I did was finally figure out where to put the treasure chest containing an underwater-breathing item, and work on the Servant Quarters and Tower areas.
It'll be underwater, in a map of the Reservoir that has been posted on the previous page. (Without Invidia or the Crescent Moon... it's going to be difficult to obtain.)

Also, the Tower area is currently confirmed to have two Warp Doors, rather than one.
The eastern Warp Door requires shooting at a shutter in order to open it.
The eastern Tower area has Moonsong as the background music.

... now I just need to figure out what to place in one of the treasure chests in Tower D (the map with the Newerthian clock).

EDIT:

First picture: invisible boss
Second picture: visible boss

The third screenshot in my previous boss? It's connected to the above two. ;)

After that boss fight, well, if you have the Life Pot, you might end up with a lot of info on the castle. :)

Aside from some foreshadowing (perhaps?), it will also mention events that have yet to happen (Lunar Shadow Zero).

Thanks~ :))

More screenshots of things that are:

SERVANT QUARTERS ET:
When entered from the Entrance side, it will be blocked; the boss in this room has to be defeated before that shutter will vanish.

TOWER GSD:
There will be a boss fight in this room. However, this boss fight can only be fully triggered via rocket.

TOWER D:
That thing with the sun and moon above it? That's the Newerthian clock. Basically, all the clocks on the planet work like that, except automated, rather than the specific one (which can be interacted with, though the mechanism temporarily breaks when doing so, forcing one to leave the room and return).
When there's a moon, this makes the boss at Servant Quarters ET visible, as well as making it possible to battle the final boss, the castle's master.
When there's a sun, this makes the boss at the Tower (the master's sister) possible to battle.

RESERVOIR B:
This is just one of the Reservoir rooms~
Not sure what could go here, yet...

... that looks kinda weird, but oh well.
There aren't any "push the wall" puzzles, are there?
Thankfully not.

I agree about the Warp Room names, though; those ought to be lighter so that they can be more readable.
It's pretty nice, really, to add those, rather than have people wonder, "where does this door go again?" and then finding out the hard way.
Indeed. :)

Really like the new room.
Thank you~
The boss Xyz has 600 total HP, whereas the most the player will have (likely) when battling it would be about 19. (I'm guessing; I tested the battle with 20 HP.)

The first form is familiar:
The second one isn't.
That boss is a bit easy, considering its attacks can be shot (for XP) and doesn't go through walls (like Xyz does).

The first form has 400 HP and the second form has 200 HP.

Thus, I can safely say that I'm currently done with the Entrance area; I did something about the weirdness of Entrance LC's moving blocks and the foregrounds, and I've checked the Life Capsule maps and they fully heal the player.

I'm also nearly done with the Laboratory area's updates (namely, the entrance to the Reservoir area and its invisible floor requiring a sign).
Meaning, from tomorrow, I can most likely work on the Reservoir area, the Tower area and the Servant Quarters area. :))

PROGRESS is awesome~

Oh, and there might be a new, fourth weapon (Misery's End) that can be obtained in version 3; the third would be obtained in the Reservoir (Acidic Bubble) and is unable to damage star blocks at levels 1 and 2.

Fourth Weapon? Is there something I missed. I remembered only the Invidia and Crescent Moon :D
Title: Re: Progress and Future Versions (spoilers)

So basically, the two maps that lie between the Entrance and the Tower?
One; that's where another boss lies. The one that becomes visible or invisible depending on where the Lunar Soul Castle's moon shines.
The second is above that.

I hope you're going to test it without cheating as well...
Of course.

Is Micren like Ironhead, then?
And how could it possibly be harder than it already is? :o
Yeah, it's like Ironhead.
Minus those blocks, unless people want a challenge (in other words, I plan on allowing the player to choose whether or not to have the damaging blocks there).

Starting in this version, the Warp Doors in the starting point will now have their names under them.

That red color is probably a bit... hard to read, though; I ought to make it slightly brighter, I guess.

Not to mention the protagonist can now swim whenever underwater, but she'd still drown, so I'd have to do something about that as well. :o
That's awesome. :)

An update: aside from being finished with the maps of the Reservoir, I have now to add two Servant Quarters maps and who-knows-how-many Tower maps (as two areas of the Reservoir connect to the Tower).
So basically, the two maps that lie between the Entrance and the Tower?

But first, I ought to test the areas out to make sure they work well. (I guess cheating is justified in this case, since {1} I have yet to place a treasure chest for the Air-Tank or equivalent thereof, and {2} game breaking stuff is never fun.)
I hope you're going to test it without cheating as well...

Cheaters never prosper, though; Micren makes sure of that. Defeat Micren without damage and you get a reward~
Of course, I think I might make it easier or harder, depending on the player's choices in the cutscene where Invidia gets stolen/taken away/eaten by a frog/whatever.

And then I'll add a few of the Tower and Servant Quarters area.

PROGRESS:
What's a mod without it? :P
I'll post a map of its progress.

The map was inspired by the GBA and DS Castlevania games.
Each 8×8-pixel square on that map is equal to a 21×16-tile map. A 16×16-pixel square, thus, would result in the map being about 42×32 tiles.

And I even color-coded it :)

Who knows? There might be even more colors as time goes on.

FUTURE VERSIONS:
Right, plans for the future versions will go in this little section right here.
