Now that I think about it this is most likely because of my native language. Because when we talk about an animal or an object the way we mention it not based by gender, but rather if the word is masculline or feminin (bassicaly we can call a shelf "he" or a fish "she" in my native language). It's pretty complicated. The coincidence is that cat is a feminin word in bulgarian. :P :P That's why when he said she I didn't noticed what he really meant.
