Title: Organya .org

Discuss Cave Story's music format here! :)

... I hope?

Someone made a program that you can just drag 'n drop these songs into; usually these can be played, assuming they use the right instruments (since Cave Story uses specific drums only and using other drums causes errors).

It is how I listen to songs, aside from Org Maker 2.

If you guys could make any three video game songs in ORG format songs, what would they be?

I would pick Cavern of Remembrance and Deep Anxiety (both songs in Kingdom Hearts). Oh, and Fragments of Sorrow (same series).

Apparently there's a Megalovania song in Selenic Shadow?

If you guys could make any three video game songs in ORG format songs, what would they be?

I would pick Cavern of Remembrance and Deep Anxiety (both songs in Kingdom Hearts). Oh, and Fragments of Sorrow (same series).
Riviera: The Final Battle
Yggdra Union: Onwards, Elena!
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment: Boss Battle

Not sure why but I like those songs. (Yay for YouTube existing. And me having a file of favorite video game songs on my computer… which only lists five songs, including the above three, Castlevania's Bloody Tears and Pokémon's Route 10 of Unova.)

Elder Dragons Aquaticus, Fiersome and Terrable… their boss themes from Rune Factory 3.

I don't know. Honestly, I wish I had music composition skills. If I did, I'm sure that I could create great music, considering that it's a creative skill. Then again, I'm sure @AFTRHR would have no trouble creating original music for Polar Shadow.

I've worked with OrgMaker before (it's actually a nice DAW for making music) and I'm guessing it has to do with 1) the readability of the notes through CS and 2) there are a set number of instruments.
It'll be easier on the game if all the instruments are already defined and you just pick and choose the timbres you want. Then note data will function similarly to .mid files, where it's just instructions on how to play the song.
Mp3 is too heavy of a file format and not very effective when it comes to file size. If CS had .mp3 instead of .org, the music would probably be at least 10x larger than the game's file size.

Perhaps I need to try this out for myself. Maybe I can use this as a gateway to make music?

Oh gosh please don't make me a Minister.
That automatically makes me feel old.

It's very straightforward, so long as you know the basics of music theory.
But sometimes the controls are a little wonky.
Lemme know if you need help using it, but I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial somewhere for it (there's always a tutorial for everything now).

But the power of science will prevent ageing, so you won't even have to feel old.

Also, I may have to try it out (after all, I have Booster's Lab, Cave Save Editor and Organya v2) next time.

Back-up OrgMaker 2.1.0 here.

Drums:
Tracks Q/U/I: Bass01
W: Snare01
E: HiClose
R: HiOpen
T: Tom01
Y: Per01

Drum tracks U and I must remain empty.

...

That "drums" file helps.
But still... hard-coded drums make me sad. :(

That makes composing problematic if you intend to use them in your mods ('cause it causes the mod to crash). But hey, if any of us use it to make music, at least it's better than KarjamP's version of Megalovania. At least Kim had the sense to use someone else's version for her mods.

If anyone asks, Wayne had realised his ORG files on CSTSF a long time ago. So yeah, it's the closest we've all got to a Hullet Bet OST.

Yep. If you're gonna ask, he's still alive. He, Polaris and Kim can be contacted at CSTSF, though you'll have to create an account there.

Strange. You can access Bloo- oh sorry, Lunar Shadow but not CSTSF whereas Kim can access CSTSF but not Lunar Shadow. Hmm, the plot thickens...
Then again, as long as you're here, Lunar Shadow will stay peace. If Ellen/Shane/Karjam comes here, chances are that it'll go up in flames; that's why I don't want The Final Battle here. Kim deserves better than to have her forum go up in flames.

But back to Organya. I'm trying it out and I've created a Game Over theme. I might refine it a bit before I consider releasing it.

I wonder though, has Kim made any Organya tracks of her own? I could also ask the same thing of Ariana/Ginerva/Bloom herself. If I get time, I'll try to get better with it. Perhaps I could try and compose Kirby's Hyper Zone 2 using this MIDI I found as a guideline?

Could be fun. :p

So I've recently made a number of transcriptions. I'll be sure to post 'em when I can, haha...

Currently finished (and possibly ear-obliteratingly bad):
Castle Oblivion (KH)
Inside Dinosaur Peak (Flintstones)
Laguna's Palace (FF Legend 3?)
Night of Fate (KH; two variants where just the end part before the loop differs a bit)

I know, right?

* eyes catch fire a la Flonne from Disgaea *

I'm all fired up, so let's-- REV IT UP!

* Synchro Summons "Samurai Destroyer" *

...

Wait, what am I even doing?! I'm not even duelling...

Anyway, finished a few more songs:

That's a total of eight songs (counting both versions of Night of Fate).

...

But it's 04:20 AM in South Africa as I'm writing this... so I guess my sleep schedule is royally fudged up, huh? :P

Was worth it, though. Can't wait to make more ORGs! :3

... Preferably not too difficult ones... I fear the cultivation would bring about a cult culture from the occult dimension, and that'd be bad. :p

I want to compose music for myself. Granted, I do feel depressive right now but I'm still trying to do the things I enjoy regardless. Also ruined my sleep schedule for the sake of modding. You and I both need better sleep and to create ORGs. (I have a few MIDIs for Kirby, but those ones will have to wait).

Hopefully I'll get to listen to your hard work later down the line.

Okay, let's try again.

Better sleep, yes. I've got loads of MIDIs preceeding February 2017, but a majority of them are too complex for me to attempt right now, haha.

Hopefully ALL of the world will know my genius attempts to make ORG transcriptions one day!

That's still far more than I have. Here's mine:
As you can tell, it's clear that downloaded what I liked rather than any I had actual skill in. I suppose I could try and start with Overworld or Xepher. The Kirby ones are surprisingly complex.

  • "Cute Devil ~ Innocence" (Touhou 4)
  • "Drawcia Sorceress" (Kirby Canvas Curse)
  • "Esperanto" (Mega Man Zero 4)
  • "Final Battle" ("Gothic Neclord", Suikoden 2)
  • "Gohan's Hidden Power" (Dragon Ball Z - Buu's Fury)
  • "Her Last Breath" (Phantasy Star IV)
  • "Ice Cap Zone Act 2" (Sonic the Hedgehog 3)
  • "The Grim Angel" (Riviera: The Promised Land)
  • "World 2" (7th Saga)
  • "Dracula's Castle" (Castlevania - Symphony of the Night)
  • "Bloody Tears" (same game)

That's just a few, haha... I went O - OversoulBoard. :p
I'm definitely adding Birth of a God and Drawcia Sorceress to my list. Also decided to download Revenge of the Enemy (KTDX), The World To Win (KTDX) as well.

One for Lunar Shadow Arc-ε, Lunar Shadow X, Lunar Shadow Zero, Lunar Shadow Yin and the one for Apocalyptic Shadow was insane.

XD

Actually, The Wrath of Revorshkenahl. People tend to not remember the name, but I remember it well :3

It is a neat Cave Story mod ;D
Also decided to download the aforementioned mod while I was at it.
For the Flamberge theme... I want AuroraDash/Pteriforever to compose an ".org" song, to be honest :-[

At least that MIDI to ORG converter by Carrotlord can result in a good chuckle sometimes... or in ear-piercingly loud gibberish enough to deafen Exploud, haha.

(Trivia: Into the Unknown uses 1 ORG made with that convertor.)
