I thought arranged marriages were extinct.
You would be surprised. I know a guy who's 17 right now and he's getting arranged to a 13-year-old girl by both of their parents.
Arranged marriages happen all the time, particularly in Asia and Africa.
There's a huge line of difference between Arranged marriage and Forced marriage though. Arranged marriage can be good. I have a friend in Qatar who was arranged and knew his would-be wife when he was 16. So I asked him, what if you don't love that person? But he said that you grow to love the other person. That is a healthy arranged marriage. Parents know what works and what doesn't work in a relationship, so they just help you find a partner who they think would help you live a good lifestyle.
On the other hand, there are families who would rather "honour kill" their children if they don't marry a specific person. That's forced marriage. There's no honour in honour killings, it's extremely revolting and twisted. Unfortunately, like arranged marriages, this still happens all around the world and so many people are unhappy because of it. It's a vulgar display of power honestly.
